SILLOTH PIER During a storm in 1959, the 99-year-old pier at Silloth had 140 feet section swept away during a two day period in March. Although no-one had been allowed out onto the pier since the end of the war in 1945, £15,000 had been spent on repairs in 1952 and the damage had come as a surprise. On the end of the pier was a navigation light which had to be moved to the mainland. From FLASH
