THIS extraordinary concrete landmark is a water tower on the western approach to School Aycliffe and it used to feed Aycliffe Hospital. There was no school in School Aycliffe it gets its name from a Viking called Scule who was given land here in about 920AD but there was a psychiatric hospital, founded in 1936.
