This photo from 1996 gives a good indication of how much construction work was required to extend the M65 towards Preston. The new stretch of motorway would eventually run across the photo - you can see the giant concrete slabds which would support it as it went over the road. This is the RIley Green junction between Feniscowles and Withness. Once complete cars would head along Finnington Lane to
