ON THIS DAY 60 YEARS AGOTHE main picture on the Echo's front page from July 22, 1963, showed the Durham Miners' Gala, which had been attended by more than 100,000 people, including Labour leader Harold Wilson and shadow chancellor James Callaghan. The main newsline from the gala was that at least 50 people had fainted in the 68 degree Fahrenheit heat that's only 20 degrees Celsius. The Echo note
