For almost 130 years, Porritt's chimney had towered over the Stubbins Vale Mill near Ramsbottom but in April 1979, the 180-foot giant would be brought down to earth. Demolition experts were called in to bring the chimney crashing down to earth. The chimney got its name from the Porritt family who had founded the mill - one of several they had operated in the area 521390904-newport BUT_11/07/202
