Showing off their hand shearing skills at The Highland at Dumfries in 1954 were the YF teams. They had a choice of shearing either Blackies or Cheviots. The winner this year in the Blackie section was J Bennie, Merkins Farm, Gartocharn, and in the Cheviot section, R Weir of Closeburn Mains, Closeburn took the title Ref: 1585
